Furniture: Lane Furniture
Lane furniture came about in March of 1912 with a man named John Lane and his 21 year old son Ed. John Lane purchased a box plant in Virginia and encouraged his son to create wooden chests in the factory. An interesting note is the Lanes were not overly confident in their success and chose to leave their name out of the company name and went with the name Standard Red Cedar Chest Company.
After finding success with cedar chests for almost 40 years, the company branched out into occasional tables in 1951 and slowly added more pieces. In the 1970s the company bought a small company in Mississippi focusing on recliners and added recliners into their furniture offerings. Today, Lane Furniture is owned by Furniture Brands International which owns a number of different well-known furniture manufacturers.
Exploring Lane Furniture
Many people like to go to a local dealer when looking at furniture so they can see it in person, which is a great idea. The only problem is many times local stores do not carry every single item offered by a particular manufacturer because their facilities just do not have enough room. You can see the quality each piece is made of and understand all of their pieces meet this same standard for the most part.
This means once you have seen the quality of Lane furniture, you can pretty much count on it with any piece you purchase even if you do not get to see it first locally. With the Internet, you can quickly and easily see all of the different furniture offered by Lane. Most pieces are built to sizes similar to other pieces so you know how much room you need for the piece to fit in your room.
